"Drill, baby, drill” - What Trump's presidency could mean for U.S. and Global Energy

With Donald Trump once again President of the United States of America, the global economy has an indication of the tone and direction of energy policy for the world's largest consumer of oil, and the second largest energy user and emitter after China, through to the end of the decade.

The details of the energy policies President Trump announced on the campaign trail were relatively sparse. The approach was described by the Republican Party as a “transformative energy freedom policy for America”, but summarised by the candidate himself as “drill, baby, drill”.

With ideas to catalyse oil, natural gas, and coal – as well as nuclear power - the fundamental positions of the new administration could not be more diametrically opposed to his pro-renewables Democratic predecessors . But what could Trump's Presidency mean for U.S. and global energy?
